Not for the easily squimish

We don't have pets in our home. My husband hates the idea of a pet, maybe cause he never had one growing up. I don't know. He has many valid points and I have not fought it as I think, yep that sounds like more working then I want to commit to right now. But after this week I am starting to think there has got to be some sort of pet that doesn't stink, isn't noisy, and is small... and it is NOT what we found in our tub last week!!!

They are building a freeway right near our home. So there are mice and voles (a meadow or field mouse) that have been invading our neighborhood. So one morning I found this in my bath tub. Caleb and Patrick were fascinated by it, especially Caleb. He loves animals. Has a toy iguana nearly glued to his hand all the time.
I am not sure if all my videos are working so I may have to come back and re post later. But one of them you can hear Calebs laugh. Sounds like he struggles to breath. He is so excited watching the mouse move.
In another video it is so you can see Calebs parrot act. He repeats stuff all the time, all day long. It is kinda funny as he took the longest of all my kids to talk and now he just talks all the time, repeating everything.

After 2 days in my tub I figured I needed to man up and get that mouse out of there. I tried to put it in a container, but it was so jumpy. I just couldn't do it!! I told one of my neighbors and she came over and grabbed it by the tail and put it in the container for me. She did get bit a little. I then took the mouse to a field nearby and set it free, the field was far enough away that the mouse won't be returning.. I told the kids it needed to go see it's Mommy and Daddy. That wasn't enough for Caleb. After being so excited to see the mouse running free. When it was time to go he cried and cried. It was so heart wrenching. I took him to the pet store for the first time to look at all the animals. He really enjoyed this. For days after he would wake up crying. It was this sad sad cry and he just wouldn't stop. When he finally calmed down enough he would say "mouse, mouse". He would ask to go for a car ride to see the mouse. So one Sunday afternoon I took him to the spot and let him look for his mouse. Josh saw a mouse and told the kids. Even though they didn't see it, it was enough to ease the pain. After that he has been much better. He has since gone to the zoo as well as sees birds flying around our house all the time. So he is getting his animal fix.
