Second Opinion

My surgery is now exactly 2 weeks away, and I am still just so nervous. I needed a second opinion for piece of mind. I think I was in shock the first doctor visit too, so I was so grateful to get some clarification. The Doctor confirmed that I do need to have the tumor removed. He explained to me that if it is cancer then they will be taking out all of my thyroid not just the right side. He said the tumor has grown but only a little. He said that if it isn't cancer I still may have to stay overnight at the hospital. I learned that I will have to be on thyroid medication no matter what and I learned that he really recommends the doctors taking it out, he likes them so much that he actually had dinner with them the night before trying to recruit one of them to his office. Small world! I felt really good about the visit and had my questions answered. His only concern was the steroid I am taking, they can mask infection and make healing take longer. He said he would feel more comfortable if I was on a low dose or off completely. He said he also wanted me to call the dermatologist and get her opinion on the matter since I had failed to mention the tumor to her, probably too busy scratching! The dermatologist called me back and said essentially the same thing but also said the tumor was more important so if I wasn't able to go down on doses comfortably she prescribed an antihistamine to help with discomfort til we were through the surgery. Luckily I don't seem to be having to worry about it.

I'm so glad that you were able to get a second opinion and receive some comfort. I know that things will go well, because you're awesome like that.
